30 Days of Blogging Honesty: Day 2

 

 

 

 

Day 02 — Not including food, blogging or television, my most guilty pleasure (this includes chocolate)…

BOOKS, GLORIOUS BOOKS! 

If I were the female version of the musical OLIVER!, I might be holding a hardbound copy of a book and say to the magistrate “PLEASE SIR, I WANT SOME MORE!”

Here’s my mini-library -it’s not yet much, but I hope to grow it steadily in the future:

There are a lot of reasons why reading is one of my  most guilty pleasures:

1.) It’s a different adventure in every chapter of every book.

2.) It transports me to different places and times. I can disappear/escape from the world.

3.) It relaxes and calms me at the same time help me strengthen my vocabulary [uh…LOL]

4.) It is always amazing to me how one’s imagination can grow and expand -limitless!

5.) Holding a book/reading it makes me feel all intellectual and knowledgeable [uh…LOL]

Most of all, I just really love reading stories. Often times, I would rather just read the book instead of watching the movie adaptation. Well, there’s that fact that most book-movie-tie-in’s have been a great disappointment…so, I often would just rather read, thanks! Of course, I do watch the films but not to the extent of actually paying big bucks. I usually just borrow DVD’s from friends and torture myself endlessly all throughout the film crying “He did not say that!” or “What happened to this?” or “Who the hell are you?” LOL

I know I love reading and books ever since I was a kid. I even have this weird habit of collecting notebooks and not write on any of them. I fell in love with Stephen King and then let’s just, the rest is history. Now, I read anything that catches my fancy. As I have said in my page BOOKWORM’S CORNER , I am in the YA phase of my book journey. I know it sounds mediocre but there are great YA books that can really stir the mind and evoke emotions.

I hope that a lot more people would come to realize how important reading a book is. I’ve been trying to get my younger brother to read ever since I can remember. He tried. I read through 3 of his Hardy Boys novels and he read 3 pages of one book before giving up. Yes, he tried! There is much to be gained from reading…really!

Now, I cannot imagine the digital age making paperback novels and hardbound books obsolete. With all the new eReaders and PDF whatnots -people find it more convenient to read an eBook since it’s less to carry and less expensive if not, just simply easily accessible. I understand this, I really do.

However, how can one resist that soft, satiny, rough skin of a book page? How can one do away with the scent of paper and ink made heady and glorious with time? How can one read without the song of a page being turned? How can one get lost in the fantasy weaved by authors without being able to dog-ear a page? How can one actually read without feeling the weight of the book as well as the sensation of holding something that is mind blowing or boggling? 

I can never bring myself to replace reading an actual book with Kindle or whatever technology. Unfortunately, I fear that what I dread [bookshops closing and no longer printing] might come to pass and we are going to be stuck with reading only using one sense -sight. That would be a very, very sad time… Aye, it is.
